Adult Eduction

We are all individuals. Maybe you are a lifelong Christian. Maybe you're not even sure you believe. No matter where you are in your Christian walk there is an opportunity at Calvary that will meet you where you are. Adult Education is a great way to grow in faith and to meet others who share your questions and can offer their own insights. Whether it's your first step, or your next step - join us on a journey of faith.

If you have questions about any adult classes at Calvary, please feel free to contact me. I'd love to learn more about your needs and interests.

Special  Seminar with Rev. Dr. Harry Wendt

The Bible and End Time Theology

Saturday, November 15th

8:30 Continental Breakfast, Atrium and Gathering Room

9:00 am — 12:30 pm, Seminar

Rev. Dr. Harry Wendt will analyze beliefs concerning the “end of days” that surface in both the Old and New Testaments, and also in writings produced between the Testaments.  He will deal with questions such as:

  • What hopes did God’s Old Testament people embrace concerning life after death?
  • What does the New Testament teach about the when and the what of the “Last Days”?
  • Can God’s people be truly sure where they will spend eternity?
  • How valid are beliefs that have to do with a Millennium, Rapture, and the battle of Armageddon?

Join us for this exciting presentation and discussion!

Dr. Harry Wendt is the author and founder of Crossways International, an organization that helps people read the written Word, to understand the Living Word, and to demonstrate that Word in their lives. He is a renowned Bible scholar.  Cost $15.

Register here or use the form in the brochures available throughout the church.   If you have questions, contact Sharon Lindau slindau@calvary.org or 763-231-2986.

I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist

8:45 with Scott Turner and Kilee Christnagel

10:00 am with Pastor David Scherer

Room N201

September 21st — November 23rd

Many of us have never received the intellectual foundation to withstand the opposition to our faith we meet in our everyday lives.  In this DVD series Dr. Frank Turek uses logic, science and hard historical evidence to show why the Bible is true, and why it takes a lot more faith to be an atheist than a Christian.  He addresses such questions as: Does Truth Exist? Does God Exist? Is there an absolute standard of morality? Can We Trust the New Testament? and many other questions of faith.  You don’t need to attend all the sessions, just come when you can.

Truth Project preview video

Do you really believe, that what you believe is really real?

Jesus said, “…for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world — to testify to the truth.  Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

What did Jesus mean by this?  Are the truth claims of God really that different than those of the world?  Are we living our lives on the side of truth as Jesus calls us to do?  Do our life choices, actions and words reflect what we believe is really real?

The Truth Project is a 12-week DVD-based small group study that practically and personally introduces viewers to the truth claims of God.  If you’re interested in finding out if the Truth Project is right for you, feel free to contact Craig Anderson at craig.anderson@mwcia.org or 952-897-6431) for more details.

New Class begins:

Tuesday, September 16 — December 9, 6:30 — 8:30 pm

Room N202

If you are thirsty for history, energized by literature, challenged by the sciences, OLLI is the place for you.

Latitudes and Attitudes

Thursdays, Sept 25 — Nov 13,  10:00 -11:30 am,  Room N203

Do circumstances—natural resources, climate, predators or lack thereof—determine how a culture develops? Or are attitudes—notions of the world, the universe, the human being, of time and chance—a more important, more fundamental determinant of the way we live? Actually, it’s kind of a chicken-or-egg question, but philosophers, historians, and social theorists have been debating the relative weight of alternative answers for centuries. No answer can be pronounced final, but the argument is interesting. Limit: 50  Instructor:  Charles Mundale
