Calvary's prayer shawl ministry was founded in 2004 by Calvary members Judy Duelo and Linda Wayne. Judy received a prayer shawl after the death of her 22-year-old son, Nick, in a car accident and felt God's nudge to share the healing gift of a prayer shawl with others. Since then, hundreds of shawls have been knitted and crocheted for those in the midst of illness, grief, a loss of any kind or a significant life transition.
Under the leadership of Jane Scofield and through a generous gift from the estate of Robert and Erma Oberg, the ministry expanded in 2007 to include baptismal prayer shawls, which are given to all infants who are baptized at Calvary. The ministry also includes a special group who makes handmade cards to accompany each prayer shawl and baptismal shawl.
