Circles are better than rows! At Calvary, we believe that spiritual growth best happens in small groups. That means our small groups aim to:
In conjunction with a weekly message series presented by Pastor Zach on the book of Galatians beginning Jan 10, 2019, we will be offering the opportunity for people to participate in a 7-week Small Group study so that they can experience the benefits that are received by studying God's Word together with 8-10 other people.
How do I sign up to participate in a group?
Starting in Dec 2018, we will have a table in the Atrium for you to choose a group that best meets your needs (day of the week, time, and location.) Some small group hosts will lead groups at Calvary; others will lead them in their homes; and others at off-site places (coffee shops, and other places around town.) You will be able to choose your group!
What will we be studying and how do I get a book?
We will be using Tim Keller's Small Group Galatians: Gospel Matters to guide our discussions. The guides will be available at Calvary. Each small group host will provide the study guides to the people in their groups on the first night, but they will be available for purchase at Calvary as well.
How can I become a small group host?
Simple. Just contact Pastor Carol to let her know that you are interested. Then, attend one of the Small Group Host Training Sessions. Choose one -- each training session lasts one hour:
If I volunteer to host a small group for this 7-weeks study, do I have to find people to come to my group?
No, people will self-select to join groups based on the day of the week they meet, time and location. You just have to be willing to host. If you would like to host a group at Calvary, we will reserve a room for you to meet in.
What happens after the 7-weeks of the study are completed? Can we continue as a Small Group?
Your small group can decide if you would like to continue on as a small group. If that's the case, then Pastor Carol will work with you as you transition into a continuing small group. Training and coaching, along with curriculum ideas will be provided to you. Many small groups meet 2 times a month; others prefer to meet weekly -- the choice will be yours.
How can my current small group participate in this small group study?
As a person who is currently in a small group, you understand first-hand the joy and power of community and the spiritual growth you receive when you are in a small group.
As a group, you can participate by using the Galatians small group study that the 7-week small groups are going to be using. More importantly, however, you could also decide to have your current small group do something that will have a lasting impact on others, by having your small group members host other groups for this 7- week study.
(For example: Out of your existing small group you could host 2-3 other small groups for just this 7-week study. Then, in March 2019, after the 7-week study is completed, you can return to your existing small group. In doing this, you enable others to participate in a group and experience the power of community. )
