The Hunger and Human Needs Committee mobilizes Calvary's resources, both personal and financial, to care for human needs throughout the world. We do this by:

• educating Calvary members about the needs of the poor, the causes of poverty and hunger, and possible solutions,
• involving member directly in needing those needs,
• by allocating your contributions to meet local and global needs. 40% of your gifts go to local needs and 60% to international needs.

How can you get involved?

• Designate a portion of your offerings to Hunger and Human Needs, on your offering envelope or check.
• Bring food shelf donations the first Sunday of any month.
• Write a letter on Bread for the World Sunday.

Looking for other hands-on-opportunities? Join other Calvary members on teams

• delivering donated food to neighborhood food shelves,
• delivering donated clothing and household goods to local emergency help centers,
• hosting bimonthly Discover evenings for welfare to work classes: serve dinner, then provide childcare for mom in class,
• hosting monthly Loaves and Fishes dinners, free supper for North Minneapolis neighbors,
• helping with Calvary's November Grocery Bag food drive,

Where do your gifts go?

The Hunger and Human Needs committee carefully researches local and global relief and development programs to find the ones that most faithfully express Christ's call to compassion and justice, and Calvary's goals.

Some of the local agencies Calvary supports include food shelves; emergency need centers, and homeless shelters, prison ministries. Some of the international projects Calvary supports include shipping books and food to Tanzania, and lobbying for poverty eradication programs both domestically and globally.

In 2003, you contributed over $180,000 to fighting hunger, poverty, and suffering in the world. The 2003 Fall Food Drive collected over 2 ½ tons of food to stock local food shelves. Altogether, Calvary gave over $900,000 in Outreach commitments.
