Kinship of Greater Minneapolis. Kinship of Greater Minneapolis provides long-term friendships to children ages 5-15 in need of additional adult support. Kinship operates as an inter-denominational Christian ministry, involving individuals, couples and families as mentors. In accordance with the parent's or guardian's support, the volunteers may offer Christian guidance in the form of healthy role modeling and companionship. They believe: (1) Children deserve the opportunity for healthy social, physical, spiritual, and intellectual development. (2) People need opportunities to put their faith into action. Through giving of themselves they are blessed. (3) Without active support and role modeling from family and community members, children's opportunities for development are severely diminished. (4) Volunteers who give freely of time, talents and love are vital for the healthy development of children lacking adequate supportive family and community relationships. (5) Prevention is more valuable and effective in human development than interventions occurring after considerable suffering and hurt have scarred lives. (6) The Christian Church is mandated to respond to the needs of hurting children and their families. (7) Christian witness speaks most loudly when it is a comforting response to the needs of others, when it is not judgmental or proud, and where unconditional love is present. (8) Recruitment, screening, training, follow-up and recognition are all essential elements of responsible volunteer programming.

Lutheran World Relief. The Good News of Jesus Christ for all people is that God loves the world and offers new life. Because God loves us first, we are free to love others--including those not like us and not of our faith. When Jesus walked among us He said that whatever we do for sisters and brothers in need, we do for Him. In His footsteps, the humble teach the proud, the poor lead the rich, and the last shall be first. In obedience to God and for the sake of the world, Lutheran World Relief lives by these core values: Faith is Active in Love; God Gives All People Dignity; We Serve With Partners; We Make Good Use of God's Gifts; We Work for Justice and Peace.
