What is Journey?
We like to describe Journey as a community of ordinary people who are inspired by incredible News. To expand on that, here are a few things that may be helpful as you decide whether or not to visit us at Journey.
Visitors
We exist to warmly welcome visitors to Journey. We ask visitors to take an online survey after they attend to help us improve the quality of our worship and welcome.
Journey Kids
God loves kids of all ages, and so do we. So register your little one(s) for Journey Kids! Starting on September 18th, kids in grades 1-6 will be dismissed from worship immediately before the message for an age-appropriate lesson. Kids under first grade are welcome to join us in the nursery, where trained staff members will share a biblical lesson. And since we’ll all be experiencing the same weekly theme from The Story, your family will have lots to talk about in the way home!
Logistics
We worship at 5 PM on Sunday evenings, with childcare available from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Worship services will last between 75 to 90 minutes, and people often hang out both before and after worship.
Worship services
Journey is a "modern" worship environment, which sounds cool, but can be hard to define. Music is sometimes acoustic and sometimes edgy. People dress casually, and lyrics are projected on screens. After an opening series of songs, we share announcements, offer a 25-40 minute teaching time, and end the service with some more worship songs. Personal prayer is made available after each worship service for those who bring special needs or burdens.
Community
At Journey, you'll find an unpretentious group of people who aren't afraid to admit their own limitations and flaws, because we're overwhelmed and inspired by the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. While we aim to cultivate community in worship, our Journey groups and Ministry teams are where you can really expect to be connected. In fact, we believe so strongly in the power of community and service that we ask all regular attenders to 'test drive' a Journey group and ministry team in order to discern where God wants them to grow and serve.
Theology and stuff
We are not a dogmatic community, a place where you need to agree to a list of beliefs before you're welcome. However, we do operate with a profound respect for the Bible, the historic and "orthodox" teachings of Christianity, and the Lutheran tradition. We aim to shape our identities, decisions, and relationships upon God's Word alone, and we proclaim Jesus Christ as the hope of the world. We might be described as theologically conservative or evangelical, but we realize that there's lots of baggage attached to these labels, so we prefer to let our teaching and community speak for themselves. If you're wondering if God may be nudging you to join us, we'd invite you to simply hang around for a while.
We hope you decide to join us on the Journey.
