Greetings from Malaysia, We’re ready to begin our ministry at the 29th Southeast Asian Games. 4,800 athletes are waiting to compete in 38 different sports. I’m here with 8 of our staff from SEA (4 from Thailand and 4 from Singapore). Please pray that God will use the 9 of us to bring Christ into the thoughts - and prayerfully into the lives - of many of these athletes. I sensed the presence of God in my first hours in Myanmar. I landed, went through passport control, then customs and then was standing trying to decide where I would find a taxi to our hotel. A guy came walking up to me, smiling. I vaguely knew his face. He said “Hello, I know you”. I was trying to remember what country in Southeast Asia he might be from - because he didn’t look very Asian. Then he said “I am from Uzbekistan. I met you about 5 years ago”. He’s a key volunteer in our Athletes in Action ministry in that country. He drove me around for a day when I was there for the World Wrestling Championships (the time a couple of my teammates got arrested for distributing Christian DVDs.) Anyway, he comes to Malaysia for 3 months every year, earning money for his family by working for some tourist company. He is returning to Uzbekistan the day we finish our project. He’s an internationally licensed soccer coach and has always wished that God could use him in the world of sport in Malaysia, but never had any contact. One of our staff from Singapore is from Malaysian and is planning to return this year to start AIA here. Just a little thing but still a God orchestrated thing. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will move us to places and people where we can be used by Him in effective ways. I’ll keep you posted on how to pray…..Blessings in Christ,

Thank you for praying for our translation work. The Gospel of Luke in the F language (Nigeria) is in the finishing stages. I checked 2 Timothy online with the Waja team (Nigeria). For the Anufo project (Ghana), the consultant has completed the check of Exodus and Leviticus! Continue to pray that Tom and the S translator would finish the S Reading and Writing Book (Nigeria).
We have a big event coming up in August – a one month trip to Israel to study Hebrew and geography. This year we have been studying Hebrew online with four other translation consultants, and we have been given the opportunity to do part of the study at the Jerusalem Center for Bible Translators in Israel. Please pray for good health and safe travel, and that we would be able to keep up with the lessons well. Pray also for Tom’s mom, who will be staying at an assisted living facility.
Thank you for your gifts each month.
Your partners in Bible translation,
Mary and Tom Holman

The Anufo team arrived on Sunday evening, May 7, so we were able to begin checking Monday morning. The checking has gone well – thanks for praying! We’re only halfway through Leviticus, and we leave for Chereponi on Saturday, so we probably won’t finish. Pray that we would be able to help them finish the last few chapters when we get back to the US.
Our hosts here in Tamale are our dear friends, Dan and Dianne Dzokotoe. They have provided food, accommodation, and a place to work for all of us. The temperature is about 100F in the afternoon, but our bedroom is air conditioned! Pray that God would pour out His blessings on Dan and Di!
We’ve already had good visits here in Tamale with some of the young people whose parents were our friends in Chereponi. It makes us so happy to see how God is working in their lives. We’re looking forward to our visit to Chereponi next week.
We thank God for you!
Greetings from Wales!
Thank you for praying for our trip to Ghana. Tom and I have our tickets and our visas in hand! We’ll be there for three weeks. Most of the time we’ll be working in Tamale, where we lived for ten years, and we’ll spend the last week visiting our friends in Chereponi so we can visit Anufo friends. I haven’t done translation checking with the Anufo for four years, so please pray that it would go well, and that our visits would be a blessing.
Tom’s mother has reservations to stay in a respite care unit at a wonderful assisted living facility again. Pray that her health would be good while she’s there.
Many thanks for your prayers,
Praising God in Vientiane!
Greetings from Southeast Asia, I’ve been struggling with internet in the country of Laos (landlocked between Vietnam and Thailand). This is the first of a 3-country trip - with a very different mission in each place. I’ll give you a prayer request for each of these stops - one at a time - starting with Laos. I’m here to meet with the national director of our parent organization (CCC) in the hopes of actually beginning an AIA ministry. He wants to start AIA in his country and he says that he has the building blocks to make it happen in a powerful way. Pray as we discuss these things and as I meet with various people who could make it happen. It’s rare that we get a national leader who is this excited about Athletes in Action. Pray that I could leave here with a definite conviction about this and even a way forward.I’ll let you know in a couple days how it went….and also give you the prayer requests for my second stop - in Taiwan. Thank you! Reid
The final Gwoza Hills Luke Partnership Workshop is at the halfway point, and we’re feeling the pressure as we work on completing all the necessary materials. We and our teams have been working “overtime” on Saturday mornings and for an hour or two in the evenings. Tom and I had a good rest on Sunday! We thank God that we’ve all been healthy and that the electricity has been good most of the time. Continue to pray that all the materials for Luke to be published and for the Jesus Film to be produced would be submitted by the end of the year.
Tom’s sister took Mom to the emergency room last week because of shortness of breath and heart palpitations. She was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. Please pray for her and for all of us as we adjust to this new situation.
We’re very grateful that you are standing with us in prayer!
